The Bruce Highway Upgrade Program is a mammoth feat and is the largest road infrastructure project the state has ever experienced.
So, Astro Hire feels fortunate to have played our part in these upgrades.
We were lucky to be engaged to support the Queensland Government’s Department of Transport and Main Roads in the Gympie Bypass upgrade project.
The $1 billion Section D portion of the upgrade is a new 26 kilometre, 4-lane highway linking up the current Bruce Highway interchange in Woondum, just south of Gympie and Curra.
Starting work in October of last year (2020), the full Section D upgrade is due for completion in 2024 — dependent on weather conditions.
The Astro Hire team provided 25T excavators to process 80,000m3 of topsoil. We recommended the 25T excavators for the project as they’re the perfect size for a transport project like this with their short radius and powerful performance abilities.
Our team also played a part in the setup of the on-site offices, with the supply of excavators and augers for the foundations. Site offices are essential for large infrastructure projects like these as they provide those facilities necessary for the team.
Lunches, meetings, and important document storage is one aspect but another is often accommodation for travelling site managers.
The Cooroy to Curra upgrades for the Gympie Bypass will increase capacity and traffic flow while improving flood immunity and ideally, the overall safety of the Gympie community.
The Queensland government is also aiming to boost the region’s growth and economy through these upgrades.
